Today we’re talking to Ania, one of our Senior Stylists who works at our West Town location! A creative and versatile hairdresser, Ania is an educator for Sine’s Advanced Training Program as well as an R+Co Regional Educator.
Why did you become a hairdresser?
I always worked with my hands, and I enjoyed creating things with my hands but I was also very social and couldn’t deal with the reclusive artist life. So I thought that I would get into fashion because sewing, but upon realizing how much schooling and discipline are required for fashion school, I decided to go to hair school.
What is your current favorite haircut or color to do?
I love creating a look that is completely custom to a person’s hair and style. I like looking to trends for inspiration and guidance but ultimately making decisions on length, layers, bangs based on what sort of maintenance and lifestyle works best for that person. I can cut your hair into a phenomenal shag but if you want to wear it all off your face in a ponytail that’s not going to work. I love doing soft, textured cuts that move and look great when you wash and go on a Sunday. For color I like adding dimensional naturally for the best possible grow out. So many women color their hair because they feel like they have to, and I would love to see more color that enhances the natural color instead of covering it completely. Unless you’re feeling bold, because bleach blonde with roots is an iconic look.
What are some of your favorite products?
For winter I love R+Co’s Atlantis Shampoo and Conditioner, as well as their Foil Frizz + Static Control Spray to combat flyaways and fuzziness. I also love Oribe’s Signature Moisture Masque for hydration.
What do you do for creative inspiration?
I love to look to nature to inspire me to change my perspective. I enjoy traveling and shopping vintage to keep my eyes fresh of what really speaks to me vs what’s being advertised to me. I love watching old movies and trying to figure out how the hair was styled or cut for that particular look.
