back to school hair is for everyone!
Back to school hair is for everyone! Even if you’re far beyond school age, fall is the perfect time to invigorate your look with a style change. There is no better way to feel renewed than by refreshing your cut and color! We’re obsessed with the new tortoiseshell and ash blonde hair color trends, and for haircuts we are loving disconnected cuts on both men and women.
Tortoiseshell hair color is named for the colors in tortoiseshell furniture and accessories. Picture an elegant pair of tortoiseshell glasses with warm gold and chocolate tones– now who wouldn’t want to carry the theme over to their hair? “It’s a very easy, transitional type of color. It enhances what your natural tones would be, and it compliments your skin tone throughout the winter months,” said SQN West Town stylist Jessi. To get this soft and natural look, ask your hairdresser for subtle highlights using a blend of golden blonde, caramel, chestnut and chocolates tones. This trend has the benefit of growing out beautifully, leaving you more time for all of your favorite fall activities!
At the polar opposite of the hair color spectrum is the ash-toned trend. Ash is the coolest tone your hair can have, compared to a neutral or golden hue. The result is a smokey, romantic hair color that works well on both blondes and brunettes. “Pearlescent and violet-toned ash is in,” says SQN stylist Mischa. “The benefits of going cooler is that it accentuates the last of your summer tan and makes your teeth look whiter. If you want ash tones, expect to come in every six weeks for a toner to maintain.” To keep the color cool and crisp between toners, use a sulfate-free shampoo and cleanse as infrequently as possible. We love ashy hair worn with a bright lip color and monochromatic outfit– it’s a small change that has a huge impact!
If these haircolor ideas aren’t your speed this “back to school” season, there is a haircutting trend we are crazy about for fall. Disconnection is any haircut where a section (or even a few pieces) don’t connect to the rest of the haircut. The undercut has had a huge renaissance during the last couple years, but that’s just one example of a disconnected haircut. Disconnected cuts can still look soft, blended and romantic– how beautiful is Michelle Williams (above)? If you’re looking to lend a little edge to your next haircut, make sure to bring as many pictures as possible to your appointment to guide your stylist. Are you trying out a new look for fall?
