Salutations in 2016! It’s a brand spanking new year and the spirit of new beginnings is thick in the air at Sine Qua Non Salons. It’s our firm belief that a positive new year starts with good hair, and SQN‘s stylists and students have been making that happen left and right! The calendar change has brought with it zany colors, chic new cuts, and gorgeous styles all around. Below are our top five favorite works of SQN hair artistry from recent weeks!

Blazing the trail for our five New Year favorites this week is the New Talent department! Sine Qua Non‘s training program is rife with promise this year, and the team’s assistants, junior stylists, and Level 1 artists have been blowing us away with their class work.

Libby, a prime example of the exciting new talent sweeping SQN, gave her client Samantha a sharp new cut this week at our Lakeview location. Samantha lives life on the edge, and her new ‘do is a perfect expression of that. To get this look, Libby refreshed her fade and shortened Samantha’s layers to release more of her texture. This technique gave the asymmetrical cut more of a flow from short to long, and complimented Samantha’s sweet baby bangs and flashy color perfectly. To finish, Libby incorporated R and Co‘s Chiffon Styling Mousse, which is great for light, airy quaffs, and then added R and Co‘s Badlands Dry Shampoo Paste at the root for a bit more texture.

Meanwhile, stylist Dahlia in West Town showcased her skills with a razor on her lovely client Carrie.

Dahlia is a Level 1 hair stylist and makeup artist at SQN, and helped Carrie welcome the new year in style.  She not only trimmed up Carrie’s mane and added layers to frame her face– she also tamed Carrie’s natural curls and gave her a stunning blowout. Dahlia utilized R and Co‘s Park Avenue Blow Out Balm to smooth these curls, and finished with R and Co‘s Mannequin Styling Paste to show off those layers. Back over in Lakeview, New Talent members Lauren and Paige proved that two heads are better than one when it comes to good hair! These lovely ladies collaborated to give their model Cheri a gorgeous new ‘do. Paige, an assistant in the training program, gave Cheri a fresh update to her layers, which created movement and body for her naturally fine texture. Since Cheri’s hair is usually straight on its own, layering like this is great for adding volume.

Next, Level 1 stylist Lauren took Cheri’s naturally ashy brown color deeper and richer, helping to cover her greys and give it tons of shine. These warm brown tones are great for bringing dimension to the locks and avoiding flatness. To style, Lauren gave Cheri some tousled, beachy waves using Bumble and bumble‘s Full Form Thickening Mousse paired with Bumble and bumble‘s Thickening Hairspray. This combo gives the maximum amount of bounce and volume, and puts the finishing touches on Cheri’s new look.

And New Year tidings are not just reserved for our women! Andersonville stylist Nate gave his client Justin a sharp new cut and beard trim this week that had “fresh” written all over it! Justin has a classic fade cut, and a beard that Father Time himself would envy. Nate finished this majestic mien off with R and Co‘s Conformist Hair Paste, which is excellent for both hold and flexibility. Justin’s New Year ‘do is off to a perfect start.

Last but not least, we’re embracing 2016 in the fullest sense, and SQN Angel Blair took the cake with her new ‘do in this regard! Blair wanted a rainbow quaff to match her sunny disposition, and collaborated with Lakeview stylist Josie on achieving this bright and flashy look. Josie was given full creative freedom with Blair’s colorful locks, and was told the crazier the better. Without a doubt, Josie took this inspiration and ran with it!

Instead, Josie went right into applying Pravana and Special Effects colors, streaking different sections of pink, purple, blue, green, and even yellow. Blair decided to keep her darker outgrowth, favoring the rooty blonde look that’s becoming ever more popular this year. To help protect the integrity of the hair, Josie applied Bumble and bumble‘s Repair Blow Dry Serum. She also trimmed Blair’s ends, encouraging healthy growth going forward. Part of the beauty of this look is in its impermanence: pastel colors like these typically fade fast, so Blair has been enjoying a gradual staining evolution as she washes week to week. Policies

CANCELLATION AND PAYMENT POLICY
At Sine Qua Non, we know things happen. In order to ensure that we can accommodate all of our guests needs, we require that you give us at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment.

We are unable to hold any appointment without a valid credit card on file. If you cancel without 24 hours notice or no show for your appointment, a charge equal to 50% of your service and will be charged to your card.

ADJUSTMENT TO SERVICES POLICY
Our goal is complete happiness with your fresh cut and color. If you need an adjustment service, they are free within 2 weeks from your original appointment, preferably with your original stylist. If a refund is requested, our policy is: Call and schedule an assessment with management within 2 weeks of your service. You must come into the salon, so we can see the problem in person. If you received an adjustment at a different salon or cannot stop by so we can see your hair, we will not refund your services.

PRODUCT RETURN POLICY
It is important to us that you are totally happy with your purchase. Product returns must happen within 30 days of purchase, be accompanied by a store receipt (and we can view in your client file) and the product must be nearly full. If you paid by credit card, you may receive a credit on your card. We are a completely cashless business.

LATE POLICY
We are committed to giving you the best one-on-one service available. If you are more than 15 minutes late, and we are unable to give you the attention you deserve, we ask that you reschedule your appointment for another day or with an available stylist.
