music we love – west fest
We love having a salon in the West Town Neighborhood, one of the most vibrant and rapidly expanding areas of Chicago. West Town is also host to West Fest, one of the biggest street festivals of the summer. Kicking off next Saturday July 11th, West Fest organizers expect 60,000 visitors this year. 2015 marks the fest’s 11th year running, and the musical lineup truly offers something for everyone.
It’s clear that organizers have made a concerted effort to appeal to everyone from families with young children, to the city’s club kids. A dedicated kid’s stage (sponsored by Beat Kitchen) offers non-stop family acts both days of the fest. With bands like “Mary Macaroni and the Impastas”, we may check out the kid’s stage out of sheer curiosity.
What is new for West Fest is the separate stage for House Music DJs, which will undoubtedly be the place to dance if the urge strikes. Although DJs aren’t our thing, we applaud the variety of music choices available. The last stage at West Fest is the main stage, sponsored by neighborhood venue (and one of our favorite places) the Empty Bottle.
We very excited to catch Seattle band Murder City Devils play the main stage. MCD are the perfect act for a Chicago Festival, offering the satisfyingly screamy, psych/garage rock we love. Nobunny also promises to keep West Fest interesting, with his referential, lo-fi sound and frenetic stage presence. With an act for every possible musical taste, we can’t wait to check out this festival in one of our favorite neighborhoods!
