fashion we love: fall’s 70’s revival
Fall fashion is one of the guilty pleasures we love to indulge during the last weeks of summer. This fall is all about reviving the 70’s in an updated way, and we can’t wait to break out some of the key pieces we’re seeing in magazines.
Everyone who had the foresight to hold onto their old flared jeans will get a lot of mileage out of them this fall. The latest incarnation of flares (please don’t call them bell bottoms) are more subtle than the last generation. Today’s flared jeans give the flattering illusion of height, especially when paired with an open-toed platform. We love the streamlined, sophisticated element of this silhouette– it keeps the trend more Halston and less Britney Spears circa 2001.
Other forgotten garments making a comeback include capes, ponchos and vests. Though “poncho” may have been considered a dirty word 5 years ago, the fall/winter runways were full of them in 2015. These retro accessories have a much more refined touch than ever before– forget the craft fair/hippie misconceptions you may have. While we may pass on vests, there are some covetable capes out there (see the street style snap above).
One thing we are completely sold on is the 1970’s color palette. The rich burgundy, camel and mahogany tones look effortlessly chic on just about everyone. We’re obsessed with the Pucci-esque geometric patterns on the runway, and will totally be stealing these looks come fall. To finish our 70’s fashion trifecta, we’ll be rocking a middle part and all of the fake shearling available.
