music we love – alex winston
November holds a special place between the fall and winter seasons, a little gray in between month. This year Chicago has seen more warm and sunny November days than ever before. But it seems like the wind doesn’t want to let us forget that winter is indeed coming!
The music we turn to in this in between time is Alex Winston. She is equal parts dark and light,Winston hits us right in that November sweet spot.
Her first full album King Con has a unique sound that feels homemade. The tracks aren’t as over produced like we are used to in today’s pop songs. Winston’s voice is other worldly and ethereal over her layered sound. Every song on this album is full of high energy and excitement.
Her new EP, The Day I Died , dropped this past Friday the 13th. Her cover art is a forced perspective portrait of Winston that likens her to a Bride of Frankenstein. The bright colors keep this EP in line with its pop ideologies
Winston has long, dark locks she styles with soft flowing curls. If you want to try her mysterious look at home, we would recommend using a medium size curling iron to create big waves away from your face. You can also use the new Badlands Dry Shampoo Paste to break up the curl a little bit and create that gritty texture your dark heart craves.
