top 5 – the final summer countdown
After a sweltering August, we welcomed September with open arms and new looks from our Sine Qua Non stylists. Our September Top 5 comes with curls, fall blondes and striking bridal updos.
Bryan‘s client came in with the goal of being a natural-looking blonde. She wanted a base color close enough to her actual root color so that the color would be low-maintenance. Bryan’s client had been coloring her hair a dark brown at home for years, so he lightened her in two visits (seven hours total!) for the most safe and beautiful result. To get this lived-in, softened look, Bryan used his new favorite technique– creative foiling and smudging. “This is not only modern color, but I have clients that can go 4 months plus without having a retouch, just a trim and gloss in between. This technique is suitable for most hair types,” Bryan tells us. Creative foiling combines hair painting, highlighting, and babylighting (super fine highlighting) techniques. This mimics the placement of natural highlights from the sun. The smudge portion of this method happens after Bryan is done putting in the foils. He carefully takes them out and manually pushes the lightener into the backcombed roots for a super seamless diffusion. We love the end result, and admire Bryan’s innovative approach to color correction!
Bryan’s second color correction this month was the lovely Penny, who had gotten her hair done overseas and ended up with over-highlighted color that was inconsistently lifted. Her goal was to return to the natural, lived-in blonde that she and Bryan had been working towards in their previous visits. “This was a true color correction, in which she had no regrowth. I had to pre-base her, which is a two-step process. I put on the ash-colored base color and let it process. After rinsing this and drying the hair, we went in with highlights, feathering and smudging them after application,” Bryan explained. Bryan brightened Penny’s ends to compliment the cool root color, and she was back to natural blonde in one visit! We so appreciate clients who choose Sine Qua Non for their color journey, cheers Penny!

Jessi created this edgy, unique haircut without using a razor, just clippers and scissors! As Jessi explained to us, “my client works at a museum and wanted an ‘arty’ haircut. She’s super open-minded and adventurous, game for anything. I was inspired by the geometry. I love that she can still style it multiple ways. I used R+Co’s Mannequin and Continental (to style).” Jessi’s client looks amazing with the contrast of the longer, tousled texture on top and the clean and modern fade along her edges. We at Sine foster long-term relationships with our clients, and we love it when they trust us enough to do something super creative and out of the box! BOOK WITH JESSI
Mischa did this bridal look on Angela. Angela has lots of beautiful hair, so the goal was to maximize her natural resources! “She wanted a soft, bohemian, casual bridal down ‘do. I pre-curled it using R&Co’s Grid Setting Spray, and twisted and pinned the hair using Bumble & bumble’s City Swept spray for polish,” Mischa tells us. There are as many kinds of bridal hair requests as they are brides, and we absolutely love the opportunity to style a unique and bohemian bride! Check out our website for more information about bridal services if your big day is coming up!

Sine Qua Non Lakeview‘s stylist Carrie is a master of precise and gorgeous updos. She has a fiercely loyal and long-standing client base who count on her for all of life’s special hair moments. We’ll let Carrie tell Katy’s story. “I have been fortunate enough to be Katy’s stylist for years. She has even moved out of state and back, all the time making sure to still get her haircuts with me. She wanted to have a modern but classic, polished look for her wedding. We did a trial version of this updo with a side part, but ultimately decided to make it straight back with a little volume on the top. I prepped the hair by spraying the Bb. Does It All hairspray and curling all of the hair. I wanted to have the shine that the Does It All created, plus the movement of the curls to help with the final style. After all the curls were in, I back combed the roots. Then I created a ponytail at the nape and back brushed the ponytail. I took that and made a bun and secured it to the head. This gave me a cushion and focal point to attach my polished style to. Then I worked with the hair in sections, using the Bb. Thickening Contour Creme to smooth the sections and define the style. Add a bit of flair provided by the bride and the style was set!” Brava Carrie, and congratulations Katy! BOOK WITH CARRIE
